Volunteer FAQ

OUR VOLUNTEER FAQ

What are the basic requirements for volunteering at adoption events?
  • You must be 18 years or older and live within 60 miles NYC
  • You should be familiar with Korean K9 Rescue’s mission, values, and background.  Here are some examples:
    • We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit, no-kill rescue group based in NYC
    • We are opposed to the dog meat trade and hope to bring an end to it. We spread awareness about it whenever possible
    • Our rescue dogs come from dog meat farms, puppy mills, the streets as strays, and high kill shelters in Korea
    • We believe that training is necessity for all of our adoptable dogs
    • We feed healthy raw and fresh food to our dogs
    • We spay/neuter, vaccinate, and microchip all of our dogs before finalizing any adoption
    • We are a foster-based rescue and do not have a physical location where applicants can meet all of our dogs (i.e., the only option for applicants to meet all of our dogs is at the actual adoption events)
    • We select adopters based on who is best fit for the dog (not first-come first-serve)
  • You must come on time and stay for the entire duration of the shift(s) that you sign up for
  • You cannot bring any other friends/family members/pets with you
  • You must follow our dress-code (see the specific question/answer below)

Our events are fun and rewarding, but can also become very busy. Volunteers must be ready and able to actively participate in helping our dogs get adopted

We love when volunteers post photos and videos of our adoption events (tag @Koreank9rescue) but we ask that you otherwise limit the amount of time you are on your phone during your shift

Please note that volunteering with us does NOT guarantee that you will be selected as an adopter. We pick our adopters based on who will be the best fit for the dog, as mentioned above

What is the dress code for volunteers at adoption events?
  • You must wear a Korean K9 Rescue shirt or sweatshirt to the event
    • You can purchase a KK9R shirt for $20 or a sweatshirt for $40 at our adoption event (payable as a donation via Venmo @koreank9rescue or cash)
    • Wear comfortable shoes and also remember to dress according to the weather
  • You must wear a mask and follow all of the recommended COVID-19 guidelines, which will be noted in our volunteer team’s emails that you will receive before each event
  • Korean K9 Rescue is fur and cruelty-free. Do not wear any fur or fur trims
How often should I volunteer at adoption events?
  • You can volunteer as often as you would like to! We understand that people can have busy schedules and we are grateful for whatever time that you can dedicate to volunteer with us
  • You should sign up for a specific event shift/activity ONLY if you are certain that you will commit to it. Cancellations and no-shows make it very difficult for the rest of the volunteers and the dogs that need our help. We ask that if you can no longer attend that you please remove yourself from the event list so someone else may be able to take your spot
What are the basic requirements for remote volunteer initiatives?
  • You can assist with other volunteer opportunities after you have been approved as a volunteer – please submit an application first. If approved, then you will need to contact Jerika
  • In the meantime, here are additional requirements for some of the remote volunteer positions:
    • Office/rescue Center Volunteer: this volunteer position will be in-person at our Astoria, Queens office for a 3 hour shift between 8:30am-6:00pm Mondays through Fridays
    • Administrative Volunteer: this volunteer position will be remote and based on your availability
    • Dog Transporter Volunteer: this volunteer position will involve driving/transporting dogs and will be based on your availability
What is the time commitment required for a remote volunteer?

In most cases, we are looking for remote volunteers that will generally dedicate a minimum of one hour each day for six months
