Our mission
Korean K9 Rescue exists to rescue and rehabilitate dogs from South Korea and to place them with loving forever families in the United States. We envision a world where all dogs can live happy and free. To date, we have rescued and adopted out over 3,500 dogs.
We are steadfastly committed to bringing an end to the dog meat trade forever, a challenging but essential mission that underlines our belief in the dignity and worth of every dog. In January of 2024, the final bill was passed in the house to end the trade by 2027. In line with this, we are passionately advocating for Lucy’s Law, championing the fight against puppy mills by banning third party sales of pet stores and dealers, promoting responsible breeding, and fostering a more humane welfare approach to pet ownership. Furthermore, we are deeply invested in advancing animal welfare and reform, tirelessly working to improve the living conditions, treatment, and rights of dogs, both in South Korea and beyond. Our dedication is unwavering in creating a world where the well-being of dogs is a priority, and their mistreatment from man is a distant memory of Korea’s past.
OUR WORK AND IMPACT
Together with our team in Bundang, Korean K9 Rescue works closely with partner organizations to rescue hundreds of dogs each year who live on the street, or are held in dog meat farms, puppy mills, high kill-shelters and slaughterhouses.
Our facility in Bundang can rehabilitate up to 150 dogs at once. Staff practice safe quarantine, conduct comprehensive health screenings, and provide vaccinations. Thanks to supporters of our Critical Care Fund, we give all our rescues–including special needs and senior dogs–the total care they need to grow healthy and to heal from their trauma. Through the diligent work of our onsite trainers, KK9R dogs develop a steady routine, build confidence, and regain trust in those who care for them.
Because the adoption rate in South Korea is less than 15%, we transport all our dogs to KK9R adoption teams in New York, Boston, and Los Angeles. As a foster-based organization, our rescues live with volunteers while they wait for their forever families. Our dogs are crate-trained, wear back-ups on their collars, and eat a healthy fresh diet. We spare no expense to ensure that all KK9R dogs can live happy, healthy, and fulfilling lives with their forever family.
To make sure we are meeting each dog’s unique needs and setting adopters up for success, we conduct a thorough adoption screening process. As you apply, we ensure that your home life is a good fit for a rescue, that you have the proper supplies, and will enroll in all necessary training. We make every effort to provide support and answer adopters questions throughout the screening and adoption process. Learn more about our adoption process or check out our adoptable dogs today!
